Heyburn State Park is a public recreation area in Benewah County, and the oldest state park in the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 1908 through an act of Congress, the park boasts 5,744 acres of land and 2,332 acres of water in three lakes, namely Benewah, Chatcolet, and Hidden. Established by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, the park’s facilities are still in use today and include two trailheads with a 3,100-foot bridge across the St. Joe River that offers spectacular views of Benewah Lake and the surrounding area. Activities and recreation in the park range from boating, fishing, swimming and sailing to canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing and wildlife watching. Heyburn State Park also has three campgrounds named after the three lakes and a full-service marina with a boat launch, public dock, boat rentals, and a convenience store.
