Situated between the cities of Athens and Atlanta, Fort Yargo State Park is a popular park featuring a circa 1792 log fort constructed by settlers to protect themselves from Cherokee and Creek Indians.

Visitors today come to the state park for a wide array of outdoor activities and its natural scenery. Camping options at Fort Yargo State Park include cozy tent campsites, adventure cabins, and fully-equipped cottages. There are also yurts available to rent, offering a “glamping” experience by the lake. The park also contains boat ramps, fishing, a spacious swimming beach, around twenty miles of trails, and a disc golf course.
