Avalon State Park is a beautiful Florida state park on North Hutchinson Island, accessible via Fort Pierce along Route A1A. The park protects over a mile of undeveloped unspoiled beachfront, providing a significant natural habitat for native Florida wildlife such as endangered loggerhead, leatherback, and Atlantic green sea turtles. A plethora of outdoor recreational opportunities are offered throughout the year, including Atlantic Ocean swimming along the park's beautiful coastline. Visitors should note that no lifeguards are staffed on duty at the beach throughout the year and should exercise caution in waters accordingly. Canoe and kayak launch sites are also available, along with areas for snorkeling and for fishing for species such as snook, pompano, whiting, bluefish, and red and black drum.
