Situated on a barrier island on the Gulf Coast, Mustang Island State Park is named for the wild mustangs that lived here until the late 1800s. There are five miles of beachfront perfect for swimming, strolling, and soaking up the sun, and there are some beautiful picnic areas perfect for families. There's also a 20-mile paddling trail for canoers and kayakers, which passes through some excellent fishing areas. Half the campsites have water and electric hookups while the other half are primitive, but all can be reached by car, and restrooms are easily accessible from both.
