Birmingham Children Theatre is one of the largest and oldest professional theater companies for young people in the country. Located at the Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama, the theater produces high-quality, professional theatrical performances and arts education experiences for children and families that are relevant to the school curriculum. Birmingham Children's Theatre was founded in 1947 and is the only professional touring theatre company in Alabama. It stages eight productions yearly, both in-house on its two stages and with the Theater-in-Motion tour. The Wee Folks productions of the theatre present plays based on fictional stories familiar to little children. Mainstage productions are appropriate for children under the age of thirteen.
