The American Mountaineering Museum came about as a joint effort between the Colorado Mountain Club and the American Alpine Club. The museum aims to educated visitors about the history and ethos of mountaineering in general and to inspire more people to consider trying out the sport for them-selves. Exhibits include historic artifacts like the equipment used by Jim Whitaker, the first American to ascend Mount Everest in 1963, and a variety of other exhibits showcasing the heroic feats of many other mountaineers. In addition to the permanent exhibits the museum features regular visiting exhibits – you can check their website to see what’s on.
