Although only two hours from L.A., Santa Barbara offers a completely different atmosphere. Known as the "Riviera of the West", Santa Barbara is home to white sandy beaches, world-class golf courses, and excellent shopping and dining options. The city is known for its beautiful architecture, but nature is easy to access by kayaking the Channel Islands or hiking in the Santa Ynez Mountains.

A number of top-rated wineries can be found only blocks from downtown, and there are even more scattered throughout the surrounding countryside.

Popular family destinations include the zoological gardens, Stearns Wharf, and Shoreline Park.
