Review:

Located the Cajalco Canyon in the foothills of the Temescal Mountains, Lake Mathews is a large man-made reservoir that provides much of the water used in the Metropolitan District of Southern California.

The lake is surrounded by roughly 4,000 acres of protected land, which is an important habitat and feeding site for a number of different bird and animal species.

Recreational use of the lake has been a controversial topic over the years, and there are currently no public recreational facilities at the lake. The reservoir is fenced off and inaccessible to the general public.
