The Brooklyn Botanical Garden, which sits in the heart of one of New York’s five boroughs, is a delight to local residents and visitors. It is best known for its Japanese Garden, one of the most visited outside of Japan; it features two dozen flowering cherry trees, a Shinto shrine, wooden bridges, and stone lanterns.

A conservatory contains a related bonsai garden. The Cranford Rose Garden is home to over one thousand species of roses, and the Shakespeare Garden mimics an English cottage garden and contains over eighty plants mentioned in the plays and poems of William Shakespeare. The Children’s Garden is the oldest in the world, and it is widely used by children in the community to grow vegetables and fruit. There are plants in bloom indoors and out year round, and the garden boasts extensive educational programming.
