Looking for sunny skies, riverfront parks, and wine country vibes? I found all that and more in Kennewick. Tucked along the Columbia River in southeast Washington, this town has a little something for everyone—hiking trails, waterfront strolls, family fun, and wineries that really impressed me. If you’re into sipping Syrah, exploring history, or just enjoying a laid-back escape, I think you’ll feel right at home here.
Best Time to Visit
I usually plan my trips to Kennewick from late spring through early fall—anytime between May and September is ideal. You’ll love the warm, dry weather if you’re into outdoor activities like I am. I’ve gone hiking, paddled the river, and even timed a visit around fall harvest season—it’s such a great time to visit the nearby vineyards and taste what the region is known for.
How to Get There
- If you are traveling by car: I’ve driven in from Seattle and it took me around 3.5 hours—pretty straightforward via I-82 and US-395. If you're coming from Walla Walla or Spokane, it’s even easier—about 2 hours away.
- By Air: I flew into Tri-Cities Airport (PSC) once and was pleasantly surprised by how quick and smooth it was. The airport’s just a few minutes from downtown Kennewick, and flights come in from a bunch of western cities.
- By Bus: If you don’t feel like driving, there are bus options. Greyhound and Ben Franklin Transit can get you in and out of town, and I’ve seen folks use them to connect to nearby cities too.
Where to Stay
- SpringHill Suites by Marriott Kennewick – I stayed here during a convention and loved how close it was to everything. It’s connected to the convention center and just a short walk to riverfront parks and shopping. Really convenient.
- Hampton Inn Kennewick at Southridge – This one’s been my go-to when I’m in town for sports events or quick weekend getaways. It’s clean, modern, and super close to the Southridge Sports Complex and restaurants.
- Clover Island Inn – I always recommend this spot if you want something unique. It’s literally on an island in the Columbia River! The views are incredible, and their rooftop bar is a great place to watch the sunset with a glass of local wine.
