Review & FAQ:
St. Francis Catholic Church was built around 1875, about three miles outside of Friday Harbor in the Catholic cemetery in the San Juan Valley. There, it replaced the original log cabin church built in 1860 and destroyed by fire in 1874. In 1958, the church purchased five acres of land in Friday Harbor and moved the church from its old cemetery home to its today’s location on Price Street. St. Francis became a parish in its own right in 1968, and it continues to grow, from only nine homesteading families in 1884 to a diverse vibrant community of about 300 families today.
