Review:

In stark contrast to the majority of the historic buildings of Helsinki, the Temppeliaukio Church (Rock Church) stands out as a wonderful example of modern architectural methods. This unique structure was carved out of solid rock and the interior walls have been left rough and unadorned to bear testimony to the laborious process. Architecture enthusiasts should not miss the opportunity to admire the huge copper-lined dome, which rests on the hewn rock walls, supported by reinforced concrete beams. Try to visit around noon when a series of cleverly placed skylights between the rock walls and the dome bathe the church hall in natural sunlight. The church has splendid acoustics and is a popular concert and wedding venue.
