Soaring above the Belgrade skyline, the Church of St. Sava, also known as the Temple of St. Sava, is one of the most striking buildings in all the city. Located on the Vracar plateau on the eastern part of the Svetosavaski Trg square, the grand Serbian Orthodox Church is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Named after St. Sava, the first archbishop of the Serbian Church known as the “Enlightener,” the house of worship is also an architectural gem with its eye-catching white marble, beautiful domes, mosaics, and other distinctive details. Outside, visitors may also admire the church’s beauty while strolling the tranquil park and grounds that surround it. Interesting to note is that the church’s bells can be heard from afar as they ring precisely at noon daily.
