Gumtree Farmstay gives guests convenient access to Oamaru in a bed and breakfast with a homey feel. There are two guest rooms in the spacious family home that sits on 200 acres of land. Or you can stay in the Shepherd’s Rest, a separate accommodation that is a purpose-built Shepherds Hut with power, an en-suite bathroom, and a kitchenette. There is a Guest Share spacious bathroom that you share just with the other guests, not the host family. One of the bedrooms does have a TV. There are locally-made artisan soaps, quality linens, towels, and electric blankets. The property covers 200 acres and has numerous gardens and trees. The farm is active, fattening bulls and running a flock of sheep. There are also friendly pet sheep, alpacas, three working dogs, ducks, chickens, a naught goat, and two house cats. Depending on the season, there may also be calves and lambs being bottle fed. Since the goal is to disconnect during a stay, there is no Wi-Fi, but there are board games. Farm tours are included in the stay and you can add afternoon tea or sheep shearing demonstrations. Guests are not allowed to use the kitchen facilities, but they can use the fridge and there is a separate station for coffee and tea. With prior notice, you can arrange a two-course evening meal and continental breakfast is included with every stay.
