Want a Hill Country escape that’s full of charm, flavor, and big Texas views? I always say—head to Dripping Springs! Just west of Austin, this little town surprised me the first time I visited. You’ll find wineries, breweries, and trails that wind through limestone cliffs and wildflowers. Whether you're sipping a glass of local wine, hiking under live oaks, or even planning a wedding, Dripping Springs blends rustic beauty with a touch of Hill Country elegance. I think you’ll fall for it like I did.
Best Time to Visit
In my experience, the sweet spots are March through May and September through November. Spring brings bluebonnets and warm afternoons perfect for patio tastings. I’ve also loved fall here—it’s cooler, a little quieter, and ideal for hiking or catching a live music set without that summer sizzle. You’ll definitely want to be outside, and these seasons make everything feel relaxed and beautiful.
How to Get There
- Driving in? I usually take US-290—it’s a scenic 30-minute drive from Austin or about 90 minutes from San Antonio. You’ll pass rolling hills, ranch gates, and plenty of tempting roadside stops. I’d recommend building in some time to explore along the way.
- Flying? I always fly into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), then rent a car. That drive through Hill Country really sets the tone—it’s peaceful, wide open, and full of charm before you even get to town.
Where to Stay
- Camp Lucy – I stayed here once for a friend’s wedding, and it’s stunning. Think upscale cottages, gorgeous views, and one of the best restaurants I’ve ever found tucked away in the countryside. If you want something special, this is it.
- Sleep Inn & Suites – This is a great option when you just need a comfortable, easy stay close to everything. I stayed here while doing a wine tour weekend and it was super convenient to get around.
- Lucky Arrow Retreat – I absolutely loved this place. You can choose from cabins, yurts, or even safari tents. It’s just outside of town but still close to breweries and live music. Great mix of nature and fun—you’ll feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem.
