Saint Vincent College was founded in 1846 by Boniface Wimmer, a Benedictine monk from Bavaria, Germany. It is a private Benedictine liberal arts college located in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and was the first Benedictine monastery in the States. It is currently managed by the Benedictine monks of Saint Vincent Archabbey. The Pennsylvania state legislature incorporated the school in 1870. Saint Vincent College became coeducational in 1983. Saint Vincent has four schools; each with a number of departments and major and minor programs that offer undergraduate or graduate degrees. They also offer special programs and public outreach activities. Each school has its own Dean and a Council of Advisors from representatives of business, industry, and academia.
