If you have any budding paleontologists in the family the Penn Dixie Fossil Park and Nature Reserve (which is located just south of Buffalo) could provide a very enjoyable day trip. Here the whole family can get down and dirty as you dig for marine fossils which remain hidden in rocks and soil from an ancient ocean which once covered the area. It’s a fascinating way to spend a few hours and you will be guided in your dig by the enthusiastic staff and volunteers. Various special educational camps and workshops are held for children aged 8 to 13, lasting from three to five days, and you can even host a very memorable children’s birthday party at the park.
