Looking for a charming Adirondack escape? You should head to Bolton Landing on Lake George. I love the small-town charm and peaceful lakeside setting. You can enjoy outdoor adventures or just relax by the water. I always find the perfect mix of nature and hospitality here.

When I Think You Should Visit

The best time to visit Bolton Landing, in my experience, is during the summer and early fall (June–October). I love being here when the lake is alive with activity—whether I’m kayaking at sunrise or dining outdoors with a view of the Adirondacks. Come fall, the foliage puts on a spectacular show, and the hiking trails feel crisp, colorful, and peaceful.

How I Usually Get There

  • By Car: I usually drive in via Route 9N—Bolton Landing is about 30 minutes north of Lake George Village and just an hour from Albany. It’s a scenic ride, especially once the mountains come into view.
  • By Train: If you’re coming from farther away, Amtrak stops at the Fort Edward–Glens Falls Station. I’ve done this route before and rented a car for the 45-minute drive to town—it’s easy and relaxed.
  • By Air: Albany International Airport (ALB) is the nearest major airport. I’ve flown in and made the 1.5-hour drive more than once—it’s a smooth trip with plenty of pretty views along the way.

Where I’ve Stayed (or Would Absolutely Recommend)

  • The Sagamore Resort – This place is iconic for a reason. I stayed here for a special occasion and loved every moment—lake views, fine dining, a peaceful spa, and one of the prettiest golf settings I’ve ever seen.
  • Melody Manor Resort – Great for families. I’ve visited with friends who had kids, and everyone loved the private beach, tennis courts, and that classic Adirondack lodge feel.
  • Chateau on the Lake – This one’s perfect if you’re traveling as a couple. I toured the property on a fall trip and was completely charmed—elegant rooms and the kind of lakefront serenity that’s made for slow mornings and glass-of-wine sunsets.

Top Spots I’ve Loved Around Bolton Landing

  • Lake George – I’ve swum, paddled, and even taken a sunset cruise here—and each time, I’m reminded why this lake is one of New York’s gems. Crystal clear water, mountain views, and just enough space to find your own quiet corner.
  • Up Yonda Farm – I didn’t expect to love this little environmental center as much as I did. The trails are peaceful, the views of the lake are amazing, and the butterfly garden was a surprise highlight.
  • Rogers Memorial Park – I always stop here, whether I’m in the mood for a picnic or catching a live summer concert. The beach is great, and the vibe is always friendly and relaxed.
  • Adirondack Hiking Trails – Cat Mountain and The Pinnacle are two of my go-tos. The views from the top are breathtaking, especially during peak foliage season. Bring water, your camera, and take your time—it’s worth the climb.
