Garretson Forge and Farm has belonged to the Garretson family since 1719 and is home to one of the oldest historic buildings in the state. The Dutch-Colonial-style Peter Garretson House was built in 1720 and offers visitors a glimpse of New Jersey farm life in the pioneer days. In those early days the farm grew various types of crops, tended by several slaves. Over the centuries parts of the farm were sold and today the historic site covers just 2 acres. Visitors are invited to come and explore the numerous buildings and artifacts which form a living outdoor museum. The extensive gardens are still used to grown various heirloom vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants.
