Sunset Zoo is a small zoo in Manhattan, Kansas, that provides a home to more than 300 animals from about 100 species. It is one of the oldest zoos in the country, established in 1930s by the then Kansas State University Head of Surgery and Medicine Dr. E.J. Frick. The zoo offers spacious and modern enclosures to the animals and some are close enough to be petted. Today, the zoo spreads over 26 acres and has plenty of space for expansion. One of the latest expansions was the John Woodard Memorial Gibbons Exhibit, with viewing plaza made of limestone and an outdoor exhibit yard. The zoo is currently working on developing the Expedition Asia exhibit in order to provide a proper home for tigers, amur leopards, and sloth bears. 2333 Oak Street, Manhattan, KS 66502, Tel. 785-587-APES (2737),
