Ristorante La Grotta is situated on the small island of La Maddalena which is accessible by ferry from Palau on the northern mainland.

The original owner, Antonio, a fish vendor, arrived on the island in 1929, from Naples. He opened the restaurant in 1958 for the locals. Tourists started arriving in the 1960s and the restaurant's reputation grew.

La Grotto was numbered among the favorite restaurants of Prince Karim Aga Khan. In 1971, Antonio's son took over. The signature dish is lobster, called Sette Otto, which means 'seven eight', the call of the fish vendors. The restaurant offers international and Neopolitan cuisine and fish prepared in a variety of ways.
