Visitors to Corydon who would like to polish up their history knowledge can take a tour of the original Corydon Capitol State Historic building, which housed the Indiana Government from 1816 to 1825. The unassuming building is located on the town square and guided tours are offered daily from Wednesday to Sunday. Here you can see the original 1815 census, which proved that the population of this small outpost was sufficient to constitute a state. Further down the road you can see the Constitution Elm – legend has it that the delegates of the Indiana Constitutional Delegation met under this very tree to draw up Indiana’s first constitution.
