Granada is home to some of the oldest Arabic baths and Hammams in Spain. Unfortunately, many of these were destroyed by the Catholic Monarchs, who considered them to have the same dubious reputation as a brothel. Luckily, one of the oldest, the Banuelo escaped destruction because it was hidden away under a private dwelling. When you visit the Banuelo today you cannot fail to be amazed by the craftsmanship of the 11th century builders who were responsible for these baths. After your tour of the Banuelo you can try a modern version of a Hammam for yourself – the series of steam baths are deeply relaxing and rejuvenating.
