Located on an elevated slope above Sacromonte, the Abadia del Sacromonte - Sacromonte Abbey is a very large complex of buildings which include an Abbey, some ancient caves and their chapels, an Old College and a Baroque church. The Abbey is still fully operational and many pilgrims come here to experience a Christian retreat. Visitors can explore a labyrinth of dark and narrow passageways which lead to ancient underground chapels and admire a wonderful collection of art which forms a permanent exhibition. There is plenty to see including the choir loft, the Old College and the restoration workshop. Free tours are offered daily but if you would like a more in-depth experience you can book a private guided tour.
