If you would like to visit a wonderful historic property without having to spend hours on the road, Historic Shirley is an ideal destination for your day trip.

This is the oldest plantation in Virginia, (established in 1613) and is located just half an hour from central Richmond along the scenic Route 5 East.

The “Great House” contains the only remaining examples of various interesting architectural elements including the “Flying Staircase” and the Queen Anne Forecourt.

Guided tours of the house are offered daily but you can also enjoy a self-guided tour of the house and grounds in your own time, with the assistance of an audio guide.
