Looking for shopping, sports, and sunshine near Fort Lauderdale? I recommend heading to Sunrise! I’ve found that this Broward County gem has it all—huge retail centers, lively event venues, and easy access to the incredible Everglades. Whether I was spending the day bargain-hunting, catching a concert, or exploring South Florida’s wild side, Sunrise delivered comfort, convenience, and lots of energy.
When I Think It’s Best to Visit
From my experience, the best time to enjoy Sunrise is between November and April. I loved the warm, dry weather—perfect for walking the outlets or heading out to the wetlands without melting in the summer heat. If you don’t mind a little humidity, summer brings lighter crowds and better deals, which can definitely work in your favor.
How I Got There
- By Car: I drove in via I-75 and I-595—super straightforward. It’s just 20 minutes from Fort Lauderdale and under an hour from Miami, so it’s really easy to add to a South Florida itinerary.
- By Air: I usually fly into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL), which is about 25 minutes away. Miami International (MIA) is an option too—just a bit further south.
- By Public Transit: I’ve tried the Broward County buses, but I found renting a car gave me the flexibility I wanted to really explore the area.
Where I Stayed (And What I Recommend)
- DoubleTree by Hilton Sunrise – Sawgrass Mills – I loved being just steps from the massive mall and super close to FLA Live Arena. If you want walkability and convenience, this is a solid pick.
- La Quinta Inn & Suites Sunrise – For a budget-friendly stay, this one did the trick. Free breakfast, a pool, and easy access to the highways made it really practical.
- AC Hotel by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Sawgrass Mills – This spot felt sleek and modern. I’d recommend it if you want something stylish but still close to all the action.
