Want that classic beach escape with ocean air, boardwalk energy, and just the right mix of fun and relaxation? I say—head to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I’ve spent many sun-drenched afternoons here, and it’s exactly the kind of place that makes you feel like a kid again—without skimping on comfort. You’ll find charming shops, beachy bites, and the sound of waves just steps away. Whether you’re into arcade games and cotton candy or craft cocktails and chic boutiques, you’ll feel right at home here like I always do.
Best Time to Visit
If you’re asking me, plan your trip between May and September. That’s when Rehoboth really comes alive. I’ve walked the boardwalk in July with a scoop of peanut butter fudge ice cream and danced to live music under the stars. But I’ve also visited in late May and early September—when the weather’s still gorgeous but the crowds have thinned. It’s the perfect sweet spot for soaking up the beach and catching a few local festivals.
How to Get There
- By car: I usually take DE-1, and the drive from D.C. or Philly takes about 2.5 hours. It’s a scenic route if you time it right—try to avoid peak traffic if you can.
- Flying in? Salisbury–Ocean City (SBY) is closer, but I’ve also flown into Philly (PHL). From there, it’s an easy drive or shuttle, especially if you’re making a weekend of it.
- By bus: I’ve used DART’s Beach Bus before—it’s a great seasonal option, especially if you want to skip parking stress. Greyhound also runs to town from nearby cities during peak times.
Where to Stay
- Boardwalk Plaza Hotel – I stayed here once for a story and honestly didn’t want to leave. It’s elegant without being fussy, and waking up to ocean views was pure magic.
- Avenue Inn & Spa – This is my go-to when I want a downtown spot that feels indulgent but still relaxed. I love their spa, and the complimentary breakfast is a nice touch before hitting the beach.
- Dogfish Inn – If you’re more into craft brews and casual vibes, head to Lewes and stay here. I’ve recommended it to friends who loved the outdoorsy energy—and, of course, the Dogfish Head beer connection.
