There’s no better place in the United States to uninhibitedly experience the beauty of Native America and the spirit of the Mohegan Indians than at the Tantaquidgeon Indian Museum. The museum was the dream of a Mohegan, John Tantaquidgeon, who along with his children, founded the museum in 1931. Even with crutches and being blind in one eye, he worked endlessly to put the museum together so that people could truly experience the traditions and culture of Native American people. The museum is currently operated by the Mohegan Tribe and is filled with eastern woodland Indian artifacts and other objects which reflect their rich history.
