In the 1850s, Fort Trumbull was a coastal defense fort which sat on the bank of the Thames River. In the years following, it was also the home of the Naval Underwater Systems Center, the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service School, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Maritime Service Officers School. Today, visitors will be able to explore the restored site which now also includes a visitor center, two floors of interactive exhibits and theaters, a self-guided fort tour, waterfront walking paths, a 500-foot fishing pier, stunning grounds, and several breathtaking vantage points which overlook the Thames River.
