Need a lively escape filled with entertainment, dining, and relaxation? I highly recommend heading to Uncasville! I went for a weekend getaway and was amazed by how much there was to do. Best known for the massive Mohegan Sun Resort, Uncasville delivers when it comes to nightlife, concerts, and total relaxation. Whether you're planning a day trip or looking to unwind for a couple of days, I think you’ll find plenty to love here—just like I did.

What I Enjoyed Most in Uncasville, CT

  • Mohegan Sun – This resort blew me away. I explored the casino, shopped, saw a live show, and had an amazing dinner—all under one roof. If you like all-in-one fun, you’re going to love it.
  • Earth Expo & Convention Center – I caught a special event here and was impressed by how modern and massive the space was. It’s worth checking their event calendar before you go.
  • Mohegan Sun Arena – This arena is world-class. I saw a concert here and the acoustics and atmosphere were top-notch. Definitely keep an eye out for upcoming shows.
  • Tantaquidgeon Museum – This spot was a quieter, more reflective part of my visit. It’s the oldest Native American-owned and operated museum in the country, and it taught me a lot about Mohegan history and culture.
  • Thames River Heritage Park – I hopped on a scenic boat ride along the Thames River and loved exploring the waterfront area. It’s a peaceful contrast to the energy of the casino.

Best Time to Visit (From My Experience)

I’ve found that spring (April–June) and fall (September–October) are the best times to visit Uncasville. The weather is mild and ideal for walking around, and it’s easier to enjoy the concerts, festivals, and resort amenities without the summer crowds. I went in late spring and felt like I had the perfect mix of activity and downtime.

How I Got There

  • By Car: I drove in via Interstate 395, and it was super straightforward—just about an hour from Providence and roughly two hours from Boston or NYC. Easy road trip distance for a weekend escape.
  • By Air: I’ve flown into T.F. Green Airport (PVD) in Providence before—it’s about an hour from Uncasville. Bradley International near Hartford is also a good option if you’re coming from farther away.
  • By Train: If you’d rather not drive, Amtrak and Shore Line East stop at New London Station. From there, it’s only 15–20 minutes to Uncasville by taxi or rideshare. I’ve used it and found it super convenient.

Where I Stayed (And Loved)

  • Mohegan Sun Hotel – If you want to stay right in the action, this is the place. The rooms are upscale, the spa is indulgent, and you’re steps away from the casino, shops, and restaurants. I barely left the property!
  • The Spa at Norwich Inn – For a quieter, more luxurious vibe, I spent a night here and felt totally pampered. The spa treatments, gardens, and fine dining made it a dreamy escape.
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites Uncasville – On a more budget-friendly trip, I stayed here and was pleasantly surprised. It’s right across from Mohegan Sun, comes with free breakfast, and even has a shuttle. Great value!

There’s no better place in the United States to uninhibitedly experience the beauty of Native America and the spirit of the Mohegan Indians than at the Tantaquidgeon Indian Museum. The museum was the dream of a Mohegan, John Tantaquidgeon, who along with his children, founded the museum in 1931. Even with crutches and being blind in one eye, he worked endlessly to put the museum together so that people could truly experience the traditions and culture of Native American people. The museum is currently operated by the Mohegan Tribe and is filled with eastern woodland Indian artifacts and other objects which reflect their rich history.
