Review:

John's Grill is one of San Francisco's most legendary dining establishments, named as one of the United States' top 10 restaurants by Esquire magazine. The historic Union Square restaurant was the first new restaurant opened to the public following San Francisco's historic 1906 earthquake, known as a top dining destination for international celebrities such as Andy Warhol, Lauren Bacall, Marlon Brando, Shirley Temple, and Francis Ford Coppola throughout the 20th century. Today, diners can cozy up in wood-paneled booths and enjoy excellent signature dishes such as Sam Spade's lamb chops, named for the private detective character created by author Dashiell Hammett, a frequent restaurant customer. Maltese Falcon-themed decor is also showcased throughout the restaurant, including a second-floor lounge space of the same name which showcases nightly music performances.
