Sturgeon’s mill is 105-year old steam-powered sawmill and working museum that showcases how a mill works, the milling process and the machines used and how sawmill workers operate the mill. Built in 1913 by Wade Sturgeon, the mill operated until 1923 when it was dismantled and relocated to its present location on Green Hill Road in Sebastopol. The Sturgeons Mill operated until 1964 before falling into disrepair, only to be restored to its former glory in the early 1990s to act as a museum for the public to learn more about the milling process. The museum features many of the original structures, hand tools, and equipment from the first mill and trained staff who interact with visitors to help them better understand the history and processes of logging and lumber milling in Western Sonoma County. Other attractions at the mill include historically famous Woodland Gardens with its meandering paths through beautiful landscapes and lovely picnic grounds for relaxing after visiting the museum.
