When I wanted a family-friendly city with easy Bay Area access and a relaxed vibe, I headed to Dublin. I think you’ll find it’s a perfect mix of comfort and convenience. Located in the Tri-Valley area of the East Bay, Dublin surprised me with its spacious parks, great shopping, cultural events, and proximity to everything—from San Francisco to Livermore wine country. Whether you’re planning to explore or just take it easy, this is a solid base for both.

What I Recommend Doing in Dublin, CA:

  • Traveling with kids? I loved the Dublin Heritage Park & Museums. You can walk through historic buildings, learn about the area’s pioneer past, and let the kids run around the green space—it’s both educational and relaxing.
  • Looking to shop and unwind? I’ve spent afternoons browsing Persimmon Place and Hacienda Crossings. You’ll find big-name stores, great restaurants, and even a movie theater—perfect if you want something easy and low-key.
  • Feeling outdoorsy? I hiked Dublin Hills Regional Park and the views were incredible. The trails aren’t too tough, and you’ll get sweeping looks at the Tri-Valley—bring water and a camera!
  • Want to cool off? I brought my family to The Wave Waterpark, and it was a blast. Waterslides, a splash zone, and even a fitness center—it’s fun for both kids and grown-ups.
  • Love local events? I went to the St. Patrick’s Day Festival one year and had so much fun. There’s live music, tons of food, and even a fun run—it’s one of the biggest Irish celebrations in California, and you’ll feel the energy everywhere.

When I Think You Should Visit

I’ve visited Dublin in every season, but April to October is definitely my favorite time. The sunny weather is perfect for hiking, shopping, or just enjoying local events. Summer gets hot and dry, while spring and fall are ideal if you prefer things a little cooler and less crowded.

How I Got There (And How You Can Too)

  • By car: I drove in using I-580 and I-680—Dublin’s right at the junction, so it was super convenient. You’re about 35 miles from San Francisco and 25 from San Jose.
  • By BART: I’ve used the Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station several times—it’s such a stress-free way to reach Oakland, Berkeley, or downtown San Francisco without dealing with parking.
  • By plane: When I fly in, I usually choose Oakland International (OAK)—it’s just 25–30 minutes away. San Francisco International (SFO) is another good option at around 40–45 minutes, depending on traffic.

Where I’ve Stayed (And Think You’ll Enjoy Too):

  • Aloft Dublin-Pleasanton: I stayed here with family—it’s pet-friendly, has a pool, and is close to everything including BART and shopping. The modern vibe made it fun and easy.
  • Hyatt Place Dublin/Pleasanton: When I was traveling for work, this was my go-to. Great workspace, comfy beds, and free breakfast got me through each day without a hitch.
  • Extended Stay America: I picked this place for a longer trip. It’s affordable and gave me space to cook and spread out—plus it’s close to tons of dining and retail.
