If you're craving mountain views, SoCal sunshine, and a relaxed vibe without the big-city chaos, I always suggest Rancho Cucamonga. I’ve spent afternoons sipping wine with the San Gabriel Mountains as my backdrop and evenings browsing Victoria Gardens under string lights. Whether you're into hiking, outlet shopping, or catching a Quakes baseball game, you’ll find more than enough reasons to stay awhile.
Best Time to Visit
From my experience, the sweet spots are March to May and September to November. You’ll get warm, sunny days without the triple-digit temps. I’ve hiked foothill trails in spring when everything’s green and blooming, and in the fall when the air cools just enough for patio dining and outdoor events. Summer? It’s hot—but I’ve still had great times ducking into wineries, hitting air-conditioned shops, and enjoying those gorgeous desert sunsets.
How to Get There
- By Car: I usually drive in on I-15 or I-10—it’s only about 45 minutes from LA and super convenient from Riverside or Pasadena. Parking’s easy, and you’ll love having the freedom to explore the area at your own pace.
- By Air: Ontario International Airport (ONT) is a lifesaver. It’s just 10 minutes away, and I’ve used it for quick domestic flights without the stress of LAX. But if you need a broader selection, LAX is about an hour west by car.
- By Train: I’ve also taken Metrolink’s San Bernardino Line straight into town. It’s a chill ride from LA or the San Gabriel Valley, and the station is conveniently located near shops and restaurants.
Where to Stay
- Aloft Ontario–Rancho Cucamonga – I love this spot when I’m traveling with my dog or want a little extra style. You’ll get a cool, modern room, an outdoor pool, and easy access to local eats and shops—it just feels fun.
- Courtyard by Marriott Ontario Rancho Cucamonga – This one’s my go-to for business trips. You’ll have everything you need: comfortable rooms, workspaces, and free parking right in the middle of the action.
- Homewood Suites by Hilton – When I’m staying longer or traveling with family, this is a great pick. You’ll get a roomy suite with a kitchenette, and it’s super close to Victoria Gardens if you’re in the mood to shop or grab dinner.
