Pelican Lake State Recreation Area is an area of outstanding beauty that offers a wealth of recreational activities for the whole family. Located seven miles southwest of Watertown, the tranquil Pelican Lake features shady areas with picnic sites, a sandy beach for sunbathing and swimming, prairie trails and a boat dock. Water-based activities include swimming, boating, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and water-skiing, and over five miles of prairie trails hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and cross-country skiers. Campsites have camping pads with electricity and water hook-ups, as well as overnight cabins, and the park is located in a prime pheasant hunting area. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and ice skating, and snowmobiling. Other facilities include an archery range, basketball courts, horseshoes, canoe and kayak rentals, and soccer pitches.
