Veliko Tarnovo is a 7,000-year-old city that was the old capital of Bulgaria for 300 years. The romantic town showcases steep cliffs lined with beautiful, traditional Bulgarian houses. The Stambolov Most bridge over the Yantra River takes travelers to the Asenevtsi Monument, which offers the best views. Charshia is a high-energy museum complex of arts and crafts, and traditional Bulgarian food and taverns. Visitors will also want to see Tsarevets Fortress, a well-preserved significant monument to the Second Bulgarian State. It features watchtowers, dungeons, fortification walls, dwellings, and churches. Nature lovers will want to see Emen Canyon, Momin Skok Waterfall, Krushuna Falls, and Devetashka Cave outside of town.
