Review:

This shrine became the personal pilgrimage site of Pope John Paul II, where he welcomed debate and meditation on both religious and secular topics. A place of learning, Jasna Gora Monastery houses two libraries with texts from the 15th century to modern day, and many of the archives are open to the public for research. In addition to a large repertoire of literature, the shrine also houses what is, according to legend, the oldest image of the Virgin Mary. Said to be painted during her lifetime, Mary's peering gaze in this image has attracted curious scholars and devout pilgrims to the site for hundreds of years.
