January in Rio de Janeiro is the start of the summer season, though the tropical climate in the region means that the weather is incredibly pleasant year round, with warm seas perfect for swimming and watersports and a hot sun to shine down on visitors as they enjoy the city’s many attractions. The weather in January does include lots of thunderstorms, which are usually over very quickly, so visitors should be prepared when it comes to dressing appropriately. Rio de Janeiro’s attractions include Corcovado, where the Christ the Redeemer statue can be found, as well as its many beaches and fantastic restaurants.
