Tennessee Day Trips

Waterfalls Near Nashville, TN
Nashville is a getaway for music, history and food lovers, offering a diverse choice of things to see and do.
Southaven is the third largest city in Mississippi, but it is also the largest city in Greater Memphis Tennessee, which makes it an ideal base for exploring all that this interstate area has to offer.
If you’re looking for a quick weekend escape or some outdoor fun, I honestly think Tennessee is a fantastic pick. I’ve done both here—and it never disappoints.
I also love how much history you can find around every corner. Tennessee played such a key role in the Civil War, and you really feel that when you explore the state.
If you’re a history buff like me, you’ll find so many Civil War landmarks to check out. You could easily fill a whole trip with just those.
I suggest starting with the pre-Civil War mansions in Murfreesboro—they’re stunning and full of stories. And if you want something truly memorable, visit Shiloh National Military Park. It left a big impression on me, and I think it will on you too.
When you walk through Nashville, you’ll instantly feel why I always call it “Music City.” The rhythm and history are everywhere—it’s like the soundtrack to your trip.
If you’re into country music, I’d start with these two places:
The Country Music Hall of Fame—you’ll love hearing the stories behind the songs and seeing legendary memorabilia up close.
RCA Studio B—honestly, I felt goosebumps being in the same space where so many hits were born. It’s like standing in music history.
If you crave nature like I do, you’ve got to make time for Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s popular for a reason—and I always leave feeling refreshed.
Here’s how I like to enjoy it:
Hiking scenic, peaceful trails—you’ll feel like you’ve escaped everything.
Camping under the stars—you won’t believe how crisp and clean the mountain air feels.
Swimming and fishing in the rivers—you’ll cool off and completely unwind.
