Wadmalaw Island is located only half an hour away from downtown Charleston, but visiting for the day feels like stepping into an entirely different world.
Much of the island is covered with rolling farmland and untouched marshland, and there are no major shops or restaurants to be found here. However, there are plenty of opportunities to indulge in a delicious drink or two.
Both of the island's major attractions revolve around beverages.
The Charleston Tea Plantation is the only place tea is grown in the country, and the local winery and distillery specializes in sweet tea vodka and muscadine wine.
