Found in the small town of Bishopville, the Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden is a destination well worth the drive.
The 2-acre property is dotted with more than 300 whimsical sculpted plants, many of which were originally rescued from the discard piles of local nurseries, and these living sculptures are complemented by unique "junk art" sculptures scattered throughout the garden.
Brochures that lead visitors through a self-guided tour of the gardens are available free of charge, and guided tours can be arranged for groups of ten or more people. Admission is by donation.
