Surrounded by the Francis Marion National Forest, McClellanville is a laid-back fishing village with a rich history.
A shrimp festival is held here every May to celebrate the town's success in the fishing industry, but the town is well worth a visit no matter what the time of year.
The shady downtown streets are lined with towering oak trees and historic clapboard homes, many of which date as far back as 1860, and there are a handful of excellent shops and restaurants.
Visitors can also hop on a ferry to the nearby Bulls Island, which offers hiking trails and a beautiful, unspoiled beach.
