If you’re looking for a relaxing weekend or an easy day trip from Philly, I’d say Exton is a great pick. I’ve wandered through a lot of towns near Philadelphia, and Exton stands out with its balance of suburban charm, nature, history, and great food. Whether I’m strolling trails, checking out the shops, or digging into a meal at a local spot, I always find something worth coming back for—and I think you will too.
Best Time to Visit (Here’s When I Go)
I recommend visiting from late spring through early fall (May to October). That’s when I’ve seen the parks at their best—blooming, green, and perfect for long hikes or bike rides. You’ll also catch festivals and easy breezy weather for exploring the nearby Brandywine Valley. I’ve had some of my favorite outdoor days during this stretch.
How I Get to Exton (You’ve Got Options Too)
- When I drive: I take U.S. Route 30 or PA Route 100—it’s just about 45 minutes west of Philly, which makes it ideal for a last-minute getaway.
- By train: I’ve hopped on both Amtrak and SEPTA to get to Exton. The station is super convenient, especially if you’re coming from Philly or Harrisburg.
- By bus: SEPTA buses work well for getting around nearby towns, and Greyhound can get you here from bigger cities. I’ve used both and found them easy enough.
Where I Stay (And Where You Might Want To)
- Hotel Indigo West Chester – Exton – I love the stylish rooms and how close it is to both shopping and trailheads. The bistro’s a nice bonus too.
- Fairfield Inn by Marriott – When I want something simple and comfortable, this place delivers. You’ll appreciate the breakfast and how close it is to everything.
- Duling-Kurtz House & Country Inn – I stayed here once for a quiet weekend—it’s a restored 19th-century farmhouse with great food and plenty of charm. I think you’d really enjoy it.
