For more than 100 years the Reading Pagoda has stood tall and proud as a symbol of the city. Built in 1908, the impressive pagoda is attached to the mountain side at the top of Mount Penn. Originally built as a luxury hotel, the 7 storey wooden structure stands 72 feet tall, and offers outstanding views out over city; on a clear day you can see up to 30 miles. Interestingly, the pagoda was originally built to hide an unsightly mountainside quarry, and was never used as a hotel due to a bank foreclosure. Reading Pagoda was sold to the city in 1911. Visitors are welcome to view the exterior of the Pagoda.
