Looking for dramatic coastal views, tide pools, and Pacific Northwest charm? I always recommend Yachats, Oregon! The first time I drove into this little oceanfront town, I was stunned by the rugged beauty. You’ll find crashing waves, forested cliffs, and a peaceful vibe that’s perfect for recharging. Whether you're hiking the coast, watching storms roll in, or savoring local seafood, I think you’ll fall for Yachats just like I did.
Best Time to Visit
I’ve visited Yachats in every season, and honestly, it depends on the experience you’re after. From May through October, you’ll get mild weather, blooming wildflowers, and plenty of time for hiking and beachcombing. I also love coming in winter for storm watching—bring a rain jacket and a good book, and you’ll feel the wild beauty of the Oregon Coast in a whole new way.
How to Get There
- By Car: I usually drive the scenic US-101—it winds right along the coast and the views are unforgettable. Yachats is about 3 hours from Portland or 1.5 hours from Eugene.
- By Air: If you’re flying in, Eugene Airport (EUG) is the closest option. From there, I rent a car and take the beautiful drive west to the coast.
- By Bus: Lincoln County Transit and other regional services run along parts of the coast, but I always recommend a car for flexibility. You’ll want to explore the viewpoints and trails at your own pace.
Where to Stay
- Overleaf Lodge & Spa: I stayed here on a solo trip, and it was exactly what I needed—oceanfront rooms, walking trails, and a spa that overlooks the waves. You’ll feel completely restored.
- Adobe Resort: This is a classic spot with dramatic ocean views and an on-site restaurant. I’ve watched sunsets from here that I still think about.
- Vacation Rentals & Cozy Cabins: I’ve booked a few charming cottages through local listings. You’ll find hidden gems tucked into the trees or right on the bluffs—it’s perfect for a quiet retreat.
Yachats, OR Highlights:
- Explore Cape Perpetua Scenic Area: I’ve hiked the trails here more than once, and the views from the overlook are some of the best on the coast. You’ll also find tide pools, blowholes, and ancient forests.
- Walk the 804 Trail: This oceanfront path is one of my favorites. You’ll stroll along cliffs, through beaches, and past tidepools—you won’t want to rush it.
- Visit Thor’s Well and Spouting Horn: These natural wonders are incredible to see at high tide. I’ve stood there watching the ocean explode upward, and it never gets old.
- Enjoy local seafood and bakeries: I’ve had unforgettable meals at places like Luna Sea and fresh pastries at the Green Salmon café. You’ll taste the freshness in every bite.
- Join a festival or local market: I’ve timed trips with the Yachats Celtic Music Festival and other local events—it’s a great way to meet people and feel the town’s creative spirit.
