I always tell friends—when you need a peaceful, charming getaway in Southern Oregon, you’ve got to head to Jacksonville. I first came for the Gold Rush history, but you’ll stay for the cozy streets, boutique shops, and amazing local wines. Whether you're chasing music festivals or just want to wander brick-lined lanes with a coffee in hand, I’ve found Jacksonville to be the perfect escape when I need to slow down.
Best Time to Visit
I usually visit between May and October—and I recommend you do too. That’s when the town feels most alive. You’ll enjoy sunny winery events, outdoor concerts, and beautiful hiking weather. I love catching a historic walking tour on a warm afternoon—it’s the best way to explore.
How to Get There
- By Car: I drive in via Highway 238—it’s a quick 15 minutes from Medford. You’ll also find it’s just about an hour from Ashland or Grants Pass.
- By Air: I usually fly into Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR), and you’ll be in Jacksonville with a 20-minute drive from there.
- By Bus: I haven’t found direct public transit, but I’ve used rideshares from Medford. You’ll have no trouble finding a quick shuttle or car service.
Where to Stay
- Jacksonville Inn – I stayed here for the history and elegance. You’ll love the classic rooms and the on-site fine dining—right in the heart of town.
- The Magnolia Hotel – This one’s perfect when I want something cozy but stylish. You’ll wake up to mountain views and walk straight into town.
- Country House Inns Jacksonville – When I’m in the mood for a romantic, cottage-style stay, I pick this one. You’ll feel tucked away in your own peaceful corner of Jacksonville.
