Sandy is a city in Clackamas County, Oregon, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range. Sandy was settled in 1853 and named after Sandy River that flows nearby. The city is the western gateway to the Mount Hood Corridor, and is located only about 27 miles from Portland. The best place to learn about the history of Sandy is Sandy Historical Museum. The museum features exhibits that talk about pioneer history and experience in the Sandy Area, Oregon Trail School District and other surrounding areas. Rainbow Trout Farm was the place where Northwesterners go for trout fishing. Sandy Actors Theatre offers live plays and entertainment year round.
