The original Thayer Mansion was built back in 1829, and it became the home of businessman Joel Thayer in 1852. Mr. Thayer did many alterations and additions to the original building, adding a mansard roof, stables and various examples of intricate ironwork. Outside, formal gardens, a solarium and an apiary added to the substantial charms of the historic mansion. The property was fully restored in 2005 and was converted into 6 up-scale condominiums. This grand old dame is still an architectural showpiece which can be admired from Thayer Park along the shore of Skaneateles Lake. The park is a great place to take a lake-side walk or sit and watch the world go by.
