The Elmwood Playhouse has been the Nyack region's premiere theater troupe since the early 20th century, originally known as the Curtain Callers and later the Rockland Community Theater. The company moved to its current theater complex, which formerly housed St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in 1958, changing its name to its current version. Today, the four-building complex is home to a 99-seat theater and three rehearsal and technical spaces. A full season of dramas, comedies, musicals, and children's theater performances are presented each year, along with special traveling show performances. Acting workshops offered throughout the year include children's stage workshops and technical staff mentoring programs.
