Founded in 1955 by John D. Rockefeller III, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts , or simply the Lincoln Center, is a 16.3-acre complex of buildings in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Manhattan. One of the cornerstones of New York City’s culture, the center is comprised of 11 organizations that are focused on the various genres of performing arts from music and dance to theater and is famous for hosting nationally and internationally renowned performing arts organizations such as the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic, the New York City Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. The various venues of the Lincoln Center can be privately rented for special events and functions.
